An Ode to Dessert Wine

Dessert wine at Summerland Winery

Luke and I have recently become big fans of wine. Whereas we used to enjoy a glass or two with dinner, we are newly obsessed with wine tasting and sampling new blends. Over Memorial Day weekend we did a wine tasting tour in Santa Barbara, and as I detailed here we are fans of Malibu Family Wines and their tasting room. As a matter of fact, we have been back to Malibu Wines a few times and are going on a wine tasting trip to Paso Robles in October.

In my recent wine explorations, I have found that there is nothing quite like dessert wine. It tastes so sweet, almost like juice, but is so distinctly grapey. Especially after a day of tasting full-bodied reds and dry whites, a splash of dessert wine is very refreshing. At the moment I’m in the middle of a bottle from Summerland winery, but have bottles from Saddlerock and Westerly dying to be opened. I’m excited for this dessert wine adventure I will be on for the next several weeks!
